So here it is : my first quilt for our group. It's called "Stepping Stones". To me it symbolises where I am at this point in my creative life : taking steps in a few new directions. Being part of a textile group being one of them. Thanks to all of you for this exciting opportunity! The quilt was made with monoprinted, procion-dyed and shwe-shwe fabric pieced together. I stencilled the stones with fabric paint and did free machine stitching on top.
You are fast Laura! I like this one.

ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC PIECE
You have the composition just perfect
I have been thinking I would like to join or start a group and get some works done.
I have been doing mostly felting as of late, as well as some multimedia works, knitting and trying my hand at using a drop spindle to make some yarn.
I am sure I did not have enough hobbies as it is :/
I have had a new years resolution to get back into my work.
Hope to talk to you soon and a visit to yours would be in order soon.
hugs
Sandy
Hi Sandy, I've just e-mailed you, but I think it was to your work address. What's your private e-mail? Drop us a line please.
DeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeletewell done for being first to post your piece. I liked the way the vertical strip appears to be shadowed on the right - very effective, it leads you into the design. I like context of stepping stones - I suspect a few of us may be at that point in our creative lives! I must find out more about Shwe shwe fabric. Your point about feedback and critique is a good one. I will put my thoughts down on the Yahoo site.

Hi Laura, I love your piece, the abstract patterning and the colours you have used.I now know more about shwe-shwe fabric from looking at a 12 by 12 group blogger.Am sure it looks even more gorgeous in real life!
ReplyDeleteLaura, this piece is beautiful. This is an example of relaxed feeling and composition that I'm trying for in my work. The strong red lines really help to emphasize the water-like swirls and the circular shapes of the stones.
