2017

We move forward from two successful exhibitions in 2016 in Prague and in the USA to the challenge of an exhibition in the Netherlands in the Autumn. We continue to work on A2 sized pieces in portrait format and will be producing four pieces over the year with the theme of 'Freedom'. An essential part of our art is working in series to a common format which does give us all a framework for our creative endeavours.

replacement

As my first quilt for 2013 decided to remain in it's hiding place, I had to make a replacement. It is roughly based on the same idea but a bit simplified. Here is the picture:

And now no quilt can go missing :-). They are all packed in the box ready to go to the post office.
Happy holidays to you all.

Abstract Autumn

And here is my 6th quilt for this year called Abstract Autumn. Background is a snow dyed piece of fabric and the trees and leaves are made from scraps of hand dyed fabric. Technically speaking I have completed my quilts for this year. However I cannot find my first quilt anywhere and I see no other option than to make a replacement knowing that the missing one will show up of course after I have done that.

Birches

Here are my latest trees. I used a multi layered background fabric and paintstiks for the trees. And yes, I admit I should have ironed my piece before I took the picture :-)

Night and day

I am one of the (many?) who is behind on making the quilts, but here is number 4:
For the background I used two snowdyed pieces of fabric. The stylized tree is made from commercial fabric. I was lucky to have this spickled fabric both in white as well as in black. And to catch up, I plan to start working on number 5 today :-)

Six trees

My recent quilt for the theme trees. Background is hand dyed pieced strips. The trees are made from mulberry bark darkened with a bit of paintstik.

Fantasy trees

For my 3rd quilt with this theme I decided on fantasy trees. Life can be boring and dull enough and some fantasy can be a treat :-). All fabrics used are hand dyed ones. Either done by me or by Kelly as I was staying at her place when I made this quilt.

At the pond

Here is my second quilt with the theme trees. This time blossom trees next to a pond - hoping that spring will come at last :-). At the moment I am taking an online class with Katie PM and decided to use the first assignment for this group as well. Because it is a class piece there were requirements which otherwise I would not have used. For instance on top of the 6 colors of the background all colors of the 3 (12 step) color wheels had to be used. More colors than I would normally have used. All colors are hand dyed. To attach the snippets of fabric which are the blossoms I attached each one with a seed bead. The other option would have been to cover them with tulle and stitch through that, but that would have had an effect on the color.

Winter tree

Don't know whether it is a Blogger or an IE problem, but I managed to upload the picture of my Winter Sunrise using Chrome.

First tree

The theme I will use for this year is trees. And my first quilt is completed :-). As background I used a piece of snow dyed fabric, not in one piece, but in strips. Here is a picture of the background fabric:

I prefer to do my quilting before I do the applique. Maybe a bit unusual, but much easier with the quilting :-). Sorry but I forgot to take a picture at this stage.
The final stage was adding the tree. For this I used a commercial black fabric, fused it, cut out the shape of the tree and ironed it onto the top. Additional quilting was added. Just like my previous quilt I did a facing to avoid a very visible binding and this is how the final results looks like:

Title of this quilt is Winter Sunrise.
Blogger is having issues at the moment. I had a lot of trouble uploading the pictures and I do not know whether you can see them. When I edit the post I can see both pictures, but when I just view the blog I only see the first one. Not only on this blog, but also on my personal blog.
