2017

We move forward from two successful exhibitions in 2016 in Prague and in the USA to the challenge of an exhibition in the Netherlands in the Autumn. We continue to work on A2 sized pieces in portrait format and will be producing four pieces over the year with the theme of 'Freedom'. An essential part of our art is working in series to a common format which does give us all a framework for our creative endeavours.

My First Voyage Quilt - LIMBO


So the theme is Where I Am.  The answer came very quickly for me as did the initial concept. Then it was just a matter of bringing it to life. 

Where I Am - LIMBO, that's where I am these days. In just about every aspect of my life...LIMBO. Not in the theological definition. More in the idea of so many things not settled. Everything is up in the air. So that is where I am taking you with this art quilt  - to my state of limbo.

I do feel as though I am barely balanced and no definite (or sometimes even a hint of) direction to go to solve any of these issues. All of them are mostly out of my control.  Others are left to decide my fate. The green verdant background is the beautiful fields of abandon where I long to frolic and play....just almost within reach. The cliff on the left is the sturdiness of knowing at least my immediate future plans. But now...I'm struggling in mid air and always feeling like any day I could plunge into the roiling tumult below me. The solid part on which I can still put my feet is my faith. It is often the only thing that keeps me upright.

So that is my story of Where I Am.

    Really liked your range of fabrics and colours Kelly - especially your use of the green shades - very effective they give depth to the piece. I hope you don't mind but I have captured some close ups of your piece and added them to your post as it shows off so well the nature of the fabrics you have used ( I am guessing that you created the fabrics yourself?. I hope in making the piece it helped you a little with starting your journey out of limbo!

      Thank you Jean! For the feedback and for posting the details. I appreciate that. And yes....All the fabrics (except the tulle and the black which is Kona) all these are fabrics from my stash. Dyed, discharged, rusted, painted, complex cloth, etc. They were fun to make (some of them are pieces done years ago) and it is even more fun using them in my art.

      And I hope that future art pieces this year reflect that journey out of limbo.
