We move forward from two successful exhibitions in 2016 in Prague and in the USA to the challenge of an exhibition in the Netherlands in the Autumn. We continue to work on A2 sized pieces in portrait format and will be producing four pieces over the year with the theme of 'Freedom'. An essential part of our art is working in series to a common format which does give us all a framework for our creative endeavours.

I started this year thinking I would do some work that challenged me and was a bit different from what I am naturally drawn to doing, so thought i would do the Earth - patterns theme. I made a small quilt based on the patterns at Giant's Causeway in Ireland. It was grey! I looked at it for a day or two and thought it was awful - just not me! so I made another one. Now I am much happier. I am going to develop the Earth - people theme and try to make 6 quilts all with faces on. This will really challenge me as I often try to miss out the faces and do a back view of people. Who knows - it might just be too much of a challenge. I might try an applique quilt next.
I painted the face and then appliqued the turban and clothes. A technique I have used a few times.

  1. It's a really good face, Gillian, I like his crinkly eyes and his big smile. The use of the two colours for his clothes is effective and the binding is great. Elaine.

  2. Oh wow I just ran across your blog randomly and I love it. This is amazing great colors and beautifully everything.... Nice work!
I am going to be following you and I love your style! keep it coming.
