2017

We move forward from two successful exhibitions in 2016 in Prague and in the USA to the challenge of an exhibition in the Netherlands in the Autumn. We continue to work on A2 sized pieces in portrait format and will be producing four pieces over the year with the theme of 'Freedom'. An essential part of our art is working in series to a common format which does give us all a framework for our creative endeavours.

Portrait #1

Here is my first quilt for the 2013 series. I said that I would have "seeds and pods" as my theme for this year, but this has changed and my chosen subject has become "me". I had done an on-line screen printing workshop and worked with photo's from my childhood. I was so pleased with the way the prints turned out and I have so many ideas of how to continue, that I decided to use this for my series as well.

Detail:
I used a background fabric which I had prepared with fabric paint, silk paper and newspaper. I then printed the image with a flour paste screen. I added a photo using gel medium, some hand-made paper and then added some lettering and machine stitching.

  1. Laura - what a great piece - and a great way of developing what you've learned in the workshop. I think that's a daunting theme... it will be interesting to see where it takes you.

  2. Sounds like you had fun with the techniques and it shows in your work. It will be interesting to see what you find out about yourself through six little quilts!

  3. What a wonderful mix of techniques,Laura. All those different layers really makes for an exciting piece.I am starting to take on-line workshops too,and find them a good alternative to being with the teacher in person.
